In 24 September , 2025 , the Indian government nominated IIT Madras to serve as a United Nations Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Artificial Intelligence .
The nomination was announced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) during the 80th UN General Assembly in New York .This initiative is part of a broader effort by the UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (ODET) to establish a global network of AI hubs .
